FOOD ALLERGIES: THE BASICS.
Peanut (this is a legume, not a tree nut)
Tree Nuts (almonds, pecans, walnuts, cashews, pistachios, pine nuts, and others)
Milk (e.g., yogurt)
Egg (e.g., scrambled)
Soy
Wheat
Fish (like salmon)
Shellfish (like shrimp)
Sesame (tahini in hummus is ground up sesame seeds)
Note on Sesame: This JUST became the 9th official allergen. Thank you to all who made it happen! The new law is effective January 1, 2023 and should help clear up ambiguous labeling like “spices” in an ingredients list, which until this law made it impossible to know if sesame is present.
